Lora Merkling RN, FNP President / CEO

I was introduced to hospice in August, 2004, when my father was diagnosed with lung cancer. Dad never smoked a cigarette in his life, so his doctors did not suspect cancer until it was very advanced. At 74 years old, Dad did not want to pursue aggressive treatments. So in support of his wishes, our family found a hospice for Dad. We learned some valuable lessons abut how it feels to have a loved one receive hospice care. Unfortunately, the care he received was a poor example of the hospice philosophy. Dad died at home on October 12, 2004. One year after his death, my sister started Resolutions Hospice in Texas with a resolve to truly focus on doing the right thing for patients, families and employees. Her successful model of quality care and support motivated me to open Legacy Hospice in Colorado.

I know that if you are contemplating hospice care, this is a very difficult time in your life. I consider it an honor to be able to care for your loved one and to try to make this time as peaceful as possible for you and for your family.
